- HUTTON, Edward. A GLIMPSE OF GREECE
Description:
Medici Society Ltd, London, 1928
Limited Edition.
Large octavo. Original brown buckram boards with bevelled edges. Titles and decoration to spine gilt. TEG, others uncut. Photographic frontispiece and plates throughout, front endpapers illustrated with a decorative map of Southern Greece, and with a fold-out full-colour map of the Greek archipelago tipped in at rear as issued.
Cloth a little rubbed and faded with a few marks, nicks and loose threads. Spine darkened, scattered foxing to endpapers, both front and rear inner joints split but holding. Contents clean with no fox or other marks. Former ownership signature to title page in red crayon. A very good copy overall.
One of a special limited edition of just 25 copies signed by the author, of which 20 were for sale, this being number 15.
Printed dedication to Norman Douglas, "My Old Friend and Companion in Greece ... whose talk enlivens these pages." A year later, in 1929, Douglas dedicated his short travel memoir, One Day, covering 12 hours in Athens, to Hutton. Very rare.
